AUSTRALIAN COLLECTIONS
1. Pre-decimal collection of mint and used stamps from the 1860s to 1970, all housed in a red stockbook. This is one of the best "treasure trove" collections weve had the pleasure to offer for quite some time, as it has such a wide range of stamps from the states to better Commonwealth all in one album. The true highlights are in the early Federal period, and include: more than 60 kangaroos mostly in used condition, but including 2x 5/- CofA avg used plus the 10/-, £1 and £2 CofA wmk in lightly used condition and 9d violet third wmk small OS mint. The KGV heads section contains almost 100 mostly used stamps up to 1/4, including: 1d smooth paper die II punct. OS, 2d orange single wmk punctured OS mint hinged, 3d blue small multi perf 13½x12½ die II mint hinged, 5d CofA overprinted OS mint hinged and 1/4 single wmk punctured OS "dry ink" mint hinged (cat. $200). But the highlights dont stop there, as this album also has: 5/- Sydney Harbour Bridge in well-centered MLH condition with slight toning on the edges only (see illustration); 1½d Canberra perf OS, 3d Kooka perf OS and 2d and 3d Bridge opted OS all MLH; Kingsford Smith, Victorian Centenary, Macarthur and Anzac sets all in avg mint and avg used condition; 1/- South Australia clean MUH x2; 3d die Ia KGVI 1x mint hinged (minor toning) plus 1x used; £1 Arms clean used x3; BCOF set mint hinged (5/- thick paper) plus a used set to 2/-; and 1966 Navigators complete and all MUH except for the $2. These are merely the highlights from the pre-decimal period, also present are more than 1000 more mint and used stamps from 1927 to 1970! And we have not even reached the states yet, which include: over 90 used NSW stamps incl. 2x 2d imperf Laureates with four huge margins in good clean condition and 8d yellow perforated diadem; 14 used from Queensland incl. some postal fiscals; 50 used from Victoria; 33 used from South Australia; 25 used from Tasmania incl. 2x 1d perforated chalons without faults and Pictorials set of 8; and 31 used from WA. Condition is generally towards the average or slightly toned end of the spectrum, though as a careful reading of the highlights above will show there are good clean stamps here as well. A very conservative pricing of just the better items (and priced according to condition) adds up to more than $2100, and I am sure this album will reveal even more treasures if you put the time into it! The whole album for only view key stamps $1499.00 2. Decimal collection of MUH stamps from 1966 to 1996, all housed on Seven Seas hingeless illustrated pages in two binders. Everything is present here as per Seven Seas layout, from the early Birds and Navigators and 1971 Christmas all the way through to the end of 1996. As a bonus there are also quite a few optional pages with extras too, such as 1971 Christmas cream paper pane of 25, Across Town labels set of 2, 1992 Australia Day MS overprinted Genova, 1992 Olympics gutter pairs set of 3, 1993 Women in Parliament normal and reverse panes of 25, 1995 People with Disabilities gutter strip of 10, and more! All the stamps and album leaves are in top condition, making this one of the nicest decimal lots weve offered for quite a while. The face value of the "standard" issues alone adds up to more than $625, and the extras quoted above have a retail value in excess of $160 (and dont forget there are more bonuses not mentioned above!). With the album pages themselves costing over $250 to buy brand new this collection is fantastic value at only $649.00 3. Decimal collection of MUH stamps from 1989 to 2002, all arranged in order in two Lighthouse stockbooks. This collection is a real bargain buy, as it contains the vast majority of issues from the period in full sets at a sensational price! Comprising a classic "one of each" layout without loads of extras like the Seven Seas format, it does however contain a couple of nice extras such as 1994 ATM sheetlet of 20, 1999 Navigators imperf MS set of 2 and the Sydney Olympics Gold Medallists se-tenant sheetlet of 17 (with just one faint gum mark, still a scarce sheet). With a total value face value in excess of $480, this lot is great value at just $349.00 4. First Day Cover collection More than 395 covers housed in four Cumberland albums, covering the period 1970 to 1993. incl. 1970 Expo, 1970 Royal Visit and 1970 Cook long cover all unaddressed, Cook small with typed address and 1971 Christmas. All the "wish list" items are here including: 1925-28 Huts defins set of 13 (cat. £650); 1931 Huts Airmails set of 13 (cat. £500); 1931 Dated Birds defins set complete except for the 2/- value, with the 10/- and £1 values being the finest CTO examples of these stamps I have ever seen (cat. £500); 1931 Dated Birds Airmails set complete with the lower values mint and higher values very fine used (cat. £500); 1932 Undated Birds set of 15 (cat. £275); 1932 Undated Birds Airmails set complete with the lower values mint and higher values fine used (cat. £275); £2 Bulolo fine used (cat. £130) and £5 very fine used (cat. £400); 1939 Bulolo Airmails set complete, all fine used except for the ½d and 1d values (cat. £550); 1925 Huts Officials VFU set of 9 (cat. £180); 1931 Dated Birds Officials fine used set of 11 (cat. £325); and 1932 Undated Birds Officials fine used set of 13 (cat. £400). We have illustrated some of the most important stamps above, and full colour scans of the entire collection are available on our website. Condition is excellent throughout, with not a trace of toning or thins on any of the key values (the soft porous paper of most of these stamps is prone to such faults). Anyone who has tried to collect premium examples of these stamps will know how difficult the task is, and to find virtually everything in the one collection in top condition is exceedingly rare. The catalogue value of this lot is now more than £4600, and some dealers retail price for these stamps if offered set-by-set adds up to almost $5000 (if you could find them!). We would prefer to offer these as one complete lot to provide you with the opportunity keep such a wonderful collection intact, and perhaps to build on them in the future. Fiji collection of MUH stamps from 1946 to 1999, all housed on hand-drawn pages in a Davo binder. This collection is almost 100% complete for the period, and includes all the better sets such as: 1954-59 QEII defins set of 15 (cat. £95); 1959-63 defins set of 13; 1962-67 defins set of 15; 1979 Wildlife set of 4; 1985 Seabirds set of 4; 1988 Frogs set of 4; and 1995 Birds set of 16. The real strength of this collection however is that virtually all the standard commemorative sets are present in MUH condition, comprising hundreds of different stamps and sheetlets in total! Condition is excellent throughout, and I did not notice any toning or other faults at all when valuing this collection. The retail value of these stamps according to another prominent local dealers list exceeds $1500, however we can supply this collection as a lot for just $1099.00 129. Great Britain collection of mixed mint and used stamps from 1854 to 1986, all hinged on hand-drawn album pages in a black springback binder. The pre-decimal section of this album is mostly used with several better items present, such as: over 150 Queen Victoria stamps in heavily used condition, including spacefiller example of 1d black with 4 margins and red Maltese Cross cancel; 1867-80 wmk Spray of Rose 9d used x5, 10d and 6d grey, 1876 8d orange; 1883-84 2/6 lilac and 5/- rose wmk Anchor white paper both used, 1883-84 6d green x2 used and 1/- green used; King Edward VII 2/6 x2 and 5/- with parcel-type cancels; over 90 KGV stamps mostly used including 3x 2/6 and 3x 5/- Seahorses, 1924 Empire Exhibition x3 sets mint; and more than 200 KGVI and QEII pre-decimals up to £1 also used. The decimal section is much cleaner and mostly mint, with dozens and dozens of sets present from 1970 through to 1986 including high values up to £2 and £5 values. Condition of the early stamps is towards the less-fine end of the range, but naturally this is well-accounted for in the price. An extremely conservative estimate states there is more than £6000 value in the pre-decimals alone, plus hundreds of good condition decimals with a face value (mint) in excess of £95, and this is a great lot at only $849.00 130. KGVI 1948 Silver Wedding Omnibus the full set of 138 stamps issued to commemorate KGVIs wedding anniversary in mint hinged condition. Sadly most of the stamps are affected by gum toning, but this is the most popular of all omnibus issues and its 100% complete! Now catalogued at £1800, this is affordable set is just $799.00 More omnibus issues available! Contact us for more details on all omnibus issues in stock! 131. New Zealand Healths collection of mint and used stamps from 1929 to 1996 including loads of minisheets, all housed in a green stockbook. This very comprehensive album is largely complete, and includes all of the following items: 1929 mint and used; 1930 mint; the classic 1931 "Smiling Boys" mint; 1932 Hygeia mint and used; 1933 Path to Health mint and used; and 1934 Crusader mint and used. Most of the above stamps have some toning on the gum side, however all present well from the front. From 1935 onwards condition improves markedly, and every issue is present mint (often MUH) and fine used/CTO with most stamps in good condition. From 1957 to 1971 each set is included mint and used, plus all the Health minisheets are included mostly MUH and mostly in fine condition (some toning). From 1972 onwards every set and MS is present MUH and condition improves even further, with the vast majority of items clean and perfect (and all sets from 1988 on are in blocks of four!). A conservative tally of the retail value of all the sets and sheets here adds up to more than $700, so even after allowing for the mixed condition this is a great buy (this would be worth far more if sold set by set - a great option for the reseller). All for only $349.00 132. Pitcairn Islands collection of mint stamps from 1940 to 1999, all housed on hand-drawn album pages. This collection is 99% complete with just a couple of sets missing, and the stamps are clean and perfect throughout. The very earliest sets are hinged, however from 1963 onwards every stamp is MUH and in fine condition and all are neatly laid out on each page. Our retail price for the stamps included here adds up to more than $900 (and our prices are already competitive - the total is over $1200 on other lists!), however this entire collection is yours for just $699.00
