AUSTRALIAN COLLECTIONS
1. Australian States collection of more than 100 mixed mint and used stamps from all the former colonies. A great beginner collection with lots to offer, including: 20+ from NSW up to 1/-; over 20 Qld stamps plus several postal fiscals fiscally used; 30+ from Victoria incl. 6d green mint; 20+ from South Australia incl. 4d orange long type mint; a dozen from Tasmania and 15+ from Western Australia. Condition is mixed but only undamaged stamps have been counted in the description above, meaning there are lots of bonuses included in this lot! A very conservative tally of the stamp-by-stamp retail value adds up to more than $250, get the lot for only $149.00 2. Pre-decimal collection of used stamps from 1913 to 1965, all housed in a Davo illustrated album. This is one of the most comprehensive early Australian collections we have offered for a while, as it contains far more of the better stamps than are usually seen! The key highlights in this album include: first wmk kangaroos complete to 5/- (except the 9d, which is actually 3rd wmk), with the 2/- brown being CTO ex-Mlebourne and the 5/- with TPO cancel; second wmk roos complete except for the 9d (5/- well-centered with parcel cancel); third wmk kangaroos to 5/-; small multi wmk roos to 5/-; CofA roos complete to £1 with the top three values actually some of the nicest stamps in this whole album. The KGV heads section is almost complete as per Davo layout, and this collection does include: from single wmk: 4d orange, blue, violet and olive plus 1/4; small multi wmk 1/4 perf 13½x12½; and all 8 CofA wmks. The general pre-decimal collection is almost complete apart, and stamps present include: 6d engraved Kookaburra; 6d brown Kingsford Smith CTO; Victorian Centenary 1/- VFU; 1/- Anzac FU; KGV Jubilee set of 3; Robes set of 3; Arms set of 4; Navigators set of 6; plus almost every lesser commem and defin from across the period. But thats not all! The Davo layout puts lots of stuff up the back of the book, which is where you will find the following: Kingsford Smith OS set of 2 CTO; 6d Kingsford Smith OS CTO; 6d small multi roo OS and 6d CofA roo OS; KGV OS opt set of 7; Bridge OS set of 2 CTO; more than 50 postage dues from 1902 to 1960 including values up to 5/-; and loads of decimals from 1966 to 1987. Condition is generally classed as average used: the centering and cancels are mostly at the less attractive end of the spectrum though there are few faulty or toned stamps. The Davo album has seen better days and these stamps really deserve to be re-housed, but what fun it would be to go through them thoroughly! There could easily be a variety or three as we have not had time to check every stamp... A very conservative estimate of the retail value of the stamps in this collection (items over $5 only, priced according to condition) adds up to well over $1500, and that does not include over £350 cat. value in the postage dues! This collection amply demonstrates how much money you can save buying collections get all of the above for only $1099.00 3. Australian collection of mixed mint hinged and used stamps from 1913 to 1974, all housed on old-style Seven Seas pages in a green springback binder. This album offers a good beginning to an Australian collection, as it contains hundreds of different issues from across the period. Some of the highlights in this album include: 13 different average used kangaroos to 5/-; 25 different used KGV heads, including fine used examples of the 4d violet, 4d olive, 4d olive overprinted OS, 4½d violet and 1/4; 6d engraved Kookaburra MLH nicely centered with crease visible only from the reverse; 1/- Lyrebird OS perfect CTO; 6d brown Kingsford Smith OS used; Bridge OS set of 2 mint; 1/- Victorian Centenary avg mint; 9d Macarthur VFU; 1/- Anzac used; 2/- Jubilee used; £1 Robes thick paper avg used; Arms set of 4 used; 5/- Cattle mint; pre-decimal Navigators set of 6 mint/used (£2 is fine used); 1966 Birds mint set of 8; 40c Navigator mint; 1971 Christmas MUH block of 7; and 15 different postage dues used to 5/-; plus of course hundreds of lesser commems and defins from across the period. Condition is mixed though there are many good quality stamps, especially in the later period (most decimals are mint). The retail value of just the better stamps (ie. worth $5 or more) present adds up to more than $550, making this collection a fine bargain at only $349.00 4. Decimal collection of MUH stamps from 1966 to 1994, all housed on Seven Seas hingeless pages in three binders. This collection is mostly complete as per Seven Seas, but also includes a fantastic range of extras also in top condition. Some of the highlights present include: 1966 Navigators and Birds sets; 1966 Navigator SPECIMENS set of 4; $1 Navigator perf 14¾x14; 4x red QEII set of 6 booklet panes in very clean condition; 5c on 4c red QEII set of 5 panes; 1970 Flight block of 9; 1970 ANPEX MS; 1971 Xmas cream and white paper panes of 25; several Frama sets of 27; 1986 Papal Visit gutter strip; 1988 Sydpex gutter strip; booklet panes; specimens, paper and perf varieties, and more. Condition is excellent throughout with just a handful of items with minor faults, though the highlights mentioned above are entirely MUH and perfect. The face value of the stamps included here adds up to more than $770, and the extras would retail for well over $425+ if sold separately! Get all three values with all of the above for $849.00 5. First Day Cover collection of more than 200 covers from 1977 to 1994, all in fine condition. We have not had time to closely count this collection, but as usual that means youre certain to get more for your money than expected! While not complete for the period, there is a great variety of covers here with only modest duplication (some of which are differnent cancels). A very conservative count of the face value of the covers in this lot totals well over $400, making this a superb buy at only $119.00 6. Pre-stamped Envelope collection of more than 150 mint PSEs from 1978 to 1989, all housed in two dedicated VST illustrated PSE albums. This collection begins with the 1978 20c Gouldian Finch envelope (PSE 001) and includes nearly every issue as per the album layout right up to 1989 41c National Parks issue (PSE 176). All covers are in pristine unaddressed condition and the albums are as-new as well. Supplied with not one but two certificates stating it is genuine: BPA 1983 and BPA 2008. There are plenty of collectors out there who would like to complete their collections as per the SG catalogue, and with a catalogue value of £2500 most would think they would never have this item. This is a good way to fill that very tough space with a genuine stamp, and it may be years (if ever!) before a better example becomes available. Only view stamp $629.00 115. Bermuda 1874 3d on 1/- green with type 7 opt (SG 14) in unused condition without gum. Another rare item (cat. value is £1500), this is supplied with a 2008 BPA certificate of authenticity. Though the certificate states it is also stained and creased I think that is quite harsh on this stamp! Available for view stamp $929.00 116. Bermuda 1875 1d on 3d (SG 16) in unused condition with non-original gum. Supplied with a 2008 BPA certificate this stamp is fault-free, £450 cat. value for view stamp $239.00 117. Bermuda 1875 1d on 1/- green (SG 17) in unused condition with partial gum, a little toned but there are no thins, folds or tears as the illustration shows. Supplied with a 2008 BPA certificate. Get £500 cat. value for view stamp $229.00 118. Botswana 1967 Birds definitives (SG 220-33) top MUH set of 15 $55.00 119. British Solomon Islands 1949 UPU 75th Anniversary MUH set of 4 $5.00 120. Gibraltar 1938 £1 orange KGVI (SG 131) in MUH condition, £38 cat. value for $39.00 124. Gibraltar 1949 UPU 75th Anniversary (SG 136-9) MUH set of 4 $6.00 125. Gold Coast 1949 UPU 75th Anniversary set in MUH blocks of 4 with selvedge at right $10.00 126. Fiji 1874 2c on 1d blue with type 6 "V.R." overprint (SG 19) in unused condition. Very early Fijian stamps such as this are extremely difficult to collect because great expertise is required to identify genuine stamps. This example is supplied with a 2008 BPA certificate for peace of mind and to ensure its resale value in the future. While there are some faults and it has been regummed, the catalogue value of £1000 illustrates how scarce this stamp is! This stamp is available for view stamp $389.00 127. Great Britain 1855-57 6d pale lilac wmk Emblems perf 14 (SG 70) in mint condition. Victorian-era stamps in mint condition are scarce and this one is no exception, with a catalogue value of £1000! This stamp has no faults and is supplied with a 2008 BPA certificate stating it is geniune with "part original gum redistributed". Available for view stamp $499.00 128. Great Britain 1924 Empire Exhibition (SG 430-1) mint set of 2, some minor issues (perfs, centering) but both stamps are clean and MUH $15.00 129. New Guinea 1914 3/- on 3m with 3½ to 4mm spacing (SG 14) in unused condition without gum. High value GRI overprints such as this are amongst the rarest and most desirable of all New Guinea and Papua stamps, though naturally one wouldnt purchase such an item without a certificate of authenticity. This stamp is supplied with two certificates of genuineness (1976 APS and 2008 BPA). Though it is evenly toned and has a small hinge thin at top, it is a rare stamp now catalogued at £3500. Just six weeks ago another example from the famous Rybak collection sold for over $3700, even though it too had small blemishes and little gum! That realisation makes our price for this stamp more than fair, its available for only view stamp $2849.00 133. New Zealand 1899 5d purple-brown no wmk perf 11 handstamped O.P.S.O. in green (SG O17a) in unused condition. The SG catalogue does not price this stamp unused, because it believes that unused examples "are generally considered to be reprints". However this is supplied with a 1994 Brandon certificate stating that it is genuine, and also that it has large part original gum. A rarity in certified mint condition, certainly something Ive never seen before in decades of stamp dealing! Yours for view stamp $799.00 1948 KGVI SILVER WEDDING
